For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
Take a break from the city and head to Kenai Fjords National Park and Dolphin & Whale Watching. Change things up with a short trip to Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park (about 32 minutes away). Next up on the itinerary: add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour and admire nature's wide array of creatures at Alaska SeaLife Center.

The 2.43 million hectares (6 million acres) of Denali National Park include low taiga forest, high-alpine tundra, and snowcapped mountains, all of which lead up to Mt.

Take a bus from Seward to Denali National Park and Preserve in 8.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train. In August, daytime highs in Denali National Park and Preserve are 20°C, while nighttime lows are 10°C. You will have some time to spend on the 20th (Sun) before leaving for Anchorage.

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Mon): explore the landscape on two wheels at Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and then examine the collection at Anchorage Museum.

Do a combination of train and car from Denali National Park and Preserve to Anchorage in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and car. In August, daily temperatures in Anchorage can reach 22°C, while at night they dip to 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Tue) early enough to travel to Homer.

Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. Start off your visit on the 22nd (Tue): see the interesting displays at Pratt Museum, admire the masterpieces at Bunnell Street Arts Center, then get your bearings at Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitor Center, and finally stroll through Homer Spit.

Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.
On the 23rd (Wed), get interesting insight from Tours and then explore the striking landscape at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: admire the sheer force of Nugget Falls and then see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

You can fly from Homer to Juneau in 5.5 hours. Another option is to ride a ferry. August in Juneau sees daily highs of 20°C and lows of 11°C at night. On the 25th (Fri), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
