Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply referred to as Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Get in touch with nature at Carmel City Beach/Carmel River Beach and Asilomar State Beach. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Point Lobos State Reserve and Pfeiffer State Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Carmel: Big Sur (Partington Cove, McWay Falls, & more). When you arrive in tiny San Simeon, which lies halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, you can see why William Randolph Hearst chose this coastal locale for his famous hilltop castle.
On the 9th (Mon), identify plant and animal life at Elephant Seal Rookery, then look for gifts at Red Moose Cookie Company, and then kick back and relax at Moonstone Beach. Keep things going the next day: kick back and relax at Piedras Blancas, do a tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery Tasting Room, and then stop by Sebastian General Store.

Getting from Carmel to San Simeon by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. While traveling from Carmel, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in San Simeon, ranging from highs of 15°C to lows of 10°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Tue) so you can go by car to Santa Barbara.
