Best known as the location of two internationally renowned universities, Cambridge sits just across the Charles River from Boston.
Get outdoors at Walden Pond State Reservation and Good Harbor Beach. Visit Freedom Trail and The Paul Revere House for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Cambridge side-trips: Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House (in Concord), Crane Beach (in Ipswich) and Salem (Peabody Essex Museum & The House of the Seven Gables). There's much more to do: admire the masterpieces at Museum of Fine Arts, pause for some photo ops at New England Holocaust Memorial, engage your brain at Museum of Science, and get engrossed in the history at USS Constitution Museum.

A small resort town with a year-round population of just 3,000, Provincetown draws nearly 60,000 annual visitors with its scenic beaches, art colonies, galleries, theaters, and shops.
Pilgrim Monument & Provincetown Museum and Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) will appeal to museum buffs. Get in touch with nature at Long Point and Nauset Beach. Change things up with a short trip to Coast Guard Beach in Eastham (about 36 minutes away). The adventure continues: tour the pleasant surroundings at Cape Cod National Seashore, get lost in a book at Provincetown Public Library, and enjoy the sand and surf at Marconi Beach.

Getting from Cambridge to Provincetown by combination of subway, bus, and flight takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of subway and ferry; or drive. Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island

The first national park east of the Mississippi River, Acadia National Park draws visitors with its rugged landscape of ocean shoreline, low-slung granite mountains, dense woodlands, and pristine lakes.
We've included these beaches for you: Little Hunters Beach and Sand Beach. Get outdoors at Mount Desert Island and Cadillac Mountain. Step out of Acadia National Park to go to Winter Harbor and see Schoodic Point, which is approximately 1h 20 min away. Next up on the itinerary: see the interesting displays at The Seal Cove Auto Museum, stop by Christmas Vacation Shop, grab your bike and head to Carriage Roads, and identify plant and animal life at Shore Path.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Provincetown to Acadia National Park in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of ferry, bus, and taxi. Traveling from Provincetown in August, Acadia National Park is a bit cooler at night with lows of 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Ogunquit.

Ogunquit

Ogunquit means "beautiful place by the sea" in the language of the Native Americans who inhabited the region long ago, and this remains an accurate description of this holiday destination today.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Marginal Way Walkway and Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse. You'll get in some beach time at Popham Beach State Park and Wells Beach. Go for a jaunt from Ogunquit to Cape Elizabeth to see Portland Head Light about 1h 05 min away. There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Ogunquit Beach and look for gifts at Spoiled Rotten.

Newport

With coastline on the west, south, and east, Newport is a maritime city with a rich history.
Visit Cliff Walk and The Elms for their historical value. Museum-lovers will get to explore The Breakers and New Bedford Whaling Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Newport: Hammonasset Beach State Park (in Madison), Misquamicut State Beach (in Misquamicut) and Mystic Seaport (in Mystic).
