Charlottesville

Situated at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is perhaps best known as the home of three of the United States' founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson.
Step off the beaten path and head to Rockbridge Vineyard and Rappahannock Cellars. Early Mountain Vineyards and Washington and Lee University are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Charlottesville side-trips: Fredericksburg (Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop & The Rising Sun Tavern), Woodrow Wilson Birthplace (in Staunton) and Copper Fox Distillery (in Sperryville). There's much more to do: learn about all things military at The American Civil War Museum - Appomattox, soar above the sights with a balloon tour, and explore the landscape on two wheels at High Bridge Trail State Park.
