A famed resort town since the early 20th century, Santa Monica sits on the picturesque Santa Monica Bay, bordered on three sides by the city of Los Angeles.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Sat): take a stroll through Montana Avenue, enjoy the sand and surf at Venice Beach and Boardwalk, then shop like a local with Abbot Kinney Boulevard, and finally look for gifts at Bergamot Station. Keep things going the next day: look for gifts at Studio City Farmers Market, browse the eclectic array of goods at Melrose Trading Post, and then get to know the fascinating history of El Pueblo de Los Angeles.

Head to Union Square and Ferry Building Marketplacefor plenty of shopping. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Alcatraz Island and City Lights Booksellers. Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
For shopping fun, head to Pike Place Market or Pacific Place. There's still lots to do: stop by Elliott Bay Book Company, admire the masterpieces at Chihuly Garden and Glass, enjoy the sand and surf at Alki Beach, and browse the range of quality goods at Nordstrom.

Traveling by combination of subway and flight from San Francisco to Seattle takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or drive. In April, Seattle is a bit cooler than San Francisco - with highs of 61°F and lows of 46°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
