Take a break from the city and head to Alcatraz Island and China Beach. Get some historical perspective at Twin Peaks and Filbert Steps. When in San Francisco, make a side trip to see Fitzgerald J V Marine Reserve in Moss Beach, approximately 40 minutes away. There's still lots to do: snap pictures at Golden Gate Bridge, identify plant and animal life at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay Wildlife Refuge, admire the majestic nature at Marin Headlands, and take in the waterfront at Fisherman's Wharf.
