Situated at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is perhaps best known as the home of three of the United States' founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Wine Tours & Tastings and Michie Tavern. Take a break from Charlottesville with a short trip to James Madison's Montpelier in Montpelier Station, about 36 minutes away. There's lots more to do: gain insight at University of Virginia, learn about winemaking at Trump Winery Tasting Room, relax in the rural setting at Carter Mountain Orchard, and contemplate the long history of James Monroe's Highland.

Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Hollywood Cemetery and Yankee Candle. Take a break from Williamsburg with a short trip to Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, about 1h 20 min away. Pack the 6th (Sat) with family-friendly diversions at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. There's much more to do: take an in-depth tour of Colonial Williamsburg, admire all the interesting features of College of William & Mary, pause for some serene contemplation at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, and admire the landmark architecture of Wren Building.

Holding a record for the longest pleasure beach in the world, Virginia Beach showcases 35 miles of coastline and maintains a longstanding reputation as a family-friendly vacation destination.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Tue): explore and take pictures at USS Wisconsin BB-64, then explore the world behind art at Chrysler Museum of Art, and then take in the waterfront at Virginia Beach Boardwalk. On the 11th (Thu), examine the collection at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center and then take an in-depth tour of National Museum of the Marine Corps. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 12th (Fri): get a sense of history and politics at The Pentagon, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Tomb of the Unknowns, and then explore the different monuments and memorials at Arlington National Cemetery.
