An old colonial city and a busy cruise ship port less than an hour's drive from Houston, Galveston sits on Galveston Island and serves as a popular vacation destination for both domestic and international travelers.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Fri): examine the collection at Space Center Houston, don't miss a visit to Tree Sculptures, and then contemplate the long history of Ashton Villa. Here are some ideas for day two: take an in-depth tour of Moody Mansion, then steep yourself in history at Bishop’s Palace, then examine the collection at Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum, and finally admire all the interesting features of 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA.

Step off the beaten path and head to South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center and South Padre Island Dolphin Research & Sea Life Nature Center.
