Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square. Appreciate the collections at Chihuly Garden and Glass and Seattle Glassblowing Studio. There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at The Museum of Flight, look for gifts at The Elliott Bay Book Company, take in the exciting artwork at Glasshouse-Studio, and identify plant and animal life at Mercer Slough Nature Park.

You can drive from Seattle to Vancouver in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of flight and tram. In March in Vancouver, expect temperatures between 15°C during the day and 4°C at night. Museum-lovers will appreciate Exploratorium and de Young Museum. Shop till you drop at Union Square and Green Apple Books. Change things up with a short trip to Fitzgerald J V Marine Reserve in Moss Beach (about 40 minutes away). There's still lots to do: explore the striking landscape of Alcatraz Island, explore the world behind art at Asian Art Museum, kick back and relax at Baker Beach, and wander the streets of Chinatown.

Traveling by combination of tram and flight from Vancouver to San Francisco takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of tram, flight, and train; or drive. Traveling from Vancouver in March, expect San Francisco to be a bit warmer, temps between 20°C and 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Los Angeles.

Do some cultural sightseeing at Getty Center The Publications and Griffith Observatory. You'll get in some beach time at Venice Beach and Boardwalk and Will Rogers State Beach. Explore Los Angeles' surroundings by going to Hermosa Beach Pier (in Hermosa Beach), Santa Monica Mountains (in Santa Monica) and Manhattan Beach (in Manhattan Beach). There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Santa Monica Beach, appreciate the history behind Watts Towers, appreciate the extensive heritage of El Pueblo de Los Angeles, and explore the different monuments and memorials at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Cemetery.
