Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. You'll get in some beach time at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and Asilomar State Beach. Step off the beaten path and head to Carmel City Beach/Carmel River Beach and Partington Cove. Change things up with these side-trips from Carmel: Big Sur (McWay Falls & Pfeiffer State Beach). There's still lots to do: hike along Point Lobos State Reserve, do a tasting at Pierce Ranch Vineyards Tasting Room, snap pictures at Bixby Bridge, and make a trip to San Carlos Cathedral.
