The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Get in touch with nature at Skyline Drive and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Arlington National Cemetery and Antietam National Battlefield. Get out of town with these interesting Washington DC side-trips: Gettysburg (Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center & Gettysburg National Cemetery) and Copper Fox Distillery (in Sperryville). Orange Beach exists solely as a tourist beach town, with a permanent population of less than 6,000.
Step off the beaten path and head to Dolphin & Whale Watching and Battleship USS ALABAMA. Take a break from the city and head to Parasailing & Paragliding and Alligator Alley. When in Orange Beach, make a side trip to see Fort Gaines in Dauphin Island, approximately 1h 25 min away. An old colonial city and a busy cruise ship port less than an hour's drive from Houston, Galveston sits on Galveston Island and serves as a popular vacation destination for both domestic and international travelers.
