Manchester is the largest city in the U.S. Explore Manchester's surroundings by going to Salem (Pickering Wharf, Salem Witch Museum, & more), Cogswell's Grant (in Essex) and Gloucester (Good Harbor Beach, Fishermen's Memorial Monument, & more). Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Ogunquit (Marginal Way Walkway, Perkins Cove, & more), Maine-ly Drizzle (in Kennebunkport) and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (in Boothbay). There's much more to do: cruise along Kancamagus Highway, take in the awesome beauty at Mount Battie, visit a coastal fixture at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and explore and take pictures at Mt Washington Auto Rd.
