Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo

4.8
Hike, fish, and boat in the idyllic setting of Devil's Lake State Park. The lake was uncovered when a glacier retreated many years ago. Walk up the quartzite bluffs surrounding the water and enjoy the view. Head to the nature center to learn about the history of the park and see displays of rocks and artifacts. You'll camp in the conifer forest of the Baraboo Hills. Campsites feature restrooms, and snacks and basic necessities are available at the Ice Age campground. You can rent a boat by the lake and pick up tackle, poles, and camping gear at the stores on the north and south end of the park. The proceeds from the stores go toward maintaining the park. • Great place for parties, camping, hiking and kayaking! Cheap rates for camp site and if needing extra food or supplies a Walmart is down the road! Always come twice a year for the adventures!  more »

  • Great lake. We spend most of our family time there almost all year. Great for hiking, swimming, camping, etc. Great picnic areas with grills and tables. They have spacious rooms you can rent in advance for events or family reunions. Try hiking in the fall the views are amazing, the colors are picture perfect. There are great trails for the family. And dogs are allowed they even have a special beach just for them. My dogs just love swimming in there.
  • This place is beautiful! It has everything from a clean small beach, grassy areas and beautiful hiking trails. I loved bringing by two German Shepard dogs here to enjoy a nice summer day. I come from Illinois where state parks are completely free and was surprised we were charged to come into this park. However it was very very cheap and well worth the price of admission. My husband and I climbed the East trail because we were told it had more scenic views. I have not climbed the west trail to compare but I loved the view we got to see and we enjoyed watching the sunset from a cliff that overlooks the lake. I can't wait to come back! Wjy
  • Over all it was a great place. Too crowded for us and also the 11pm lights out did not work for us. The lake is crystal clear and amazing. The boat rentals are good but needs a lesson on how to treat people who is essentially paying for their jobs. The showers and bathrooms are good for the most part but could use more detail cleaning. The toilet pits are a joke. Might as well get rid of them and replace with modern style. Overall good spot to get away.
  • This is one of my favorite state parks in Wisconsin and should be visited by all! The lake may not be huge, but it acts as a wonderful centerpiece in this massive diorama. Hiking around the bluffs through the many rock formations has captivated me since the first time I came at the young age of 9 and has only gotten better with age. There really isn't another place like it!
  • It's always worth the drive from Madison to come up here. My wife and I love doing the loop around the lake with the climbs up the rock stairs on the SE shore as a great starting point. It's beautiful any time of the year, just be careful of the "stairs" in winter. The views are so lovely and it's always great seeing so many people from diverse backgrounds enjoying the park. You can climb, swim, kayak, float, run, hike and I've even seen people dive. It's all there, so go and enjoy it!
