The world's largest urban zoo, Bronx Zoo displays more than 650 different species from across the globe--about 6,000 animals in total. The 107 hectare (265 acre) park features numerous sections and regional themes, including Wild Asia, Madagascar, African Plains, the World of Monkeys, and Tiger Mountain. You'll find a colony of critically endangered western lowland gorillas in their jungle habitat in the Congo Gorilla Forest, which showcases the zoo's commitment to conservation and provides residents with spacious outdoor enclosures. Check the zoo's online events schedule for animal feedings, zookeeper talks, and enrichment activities. • We went here on the amazing Metro. The zoo cost us 58 dollars to get in. Because it was so cold the animals were all inside. All we saw on our amble was, the back of a gorilla picking his nose, some s...  more »
  • Is a little far from Manhattan, but if you have with time, it's worth it. Many interesting animals, but in the winter (in January), some animals simply don't appear. But, there are several areas closed where it is possible to see various animals. Pay a symbolic value on Wednesday, "pay what you wish", for General Admission. We were lucky because part of the Gorilla (which is typically paid the part) was open for everyone, because they didn't know if they would show up. On cold days, even if you take snack, I suggest you stop at the Café central for lunch because it is air conditioned.

  • This really is a world class zoo, even if it is a bit dated. Easy to get to from the subway (We went to West Farm). We went on a Wednesday and bought the reduced price all inclusive ticket which was well worth it. Watch out for the black squirrels on the way to the zoo, I didn't even know they existed!
  • Hands down, the best zoo I have ever visited. The only zoo I have ever been to that surpassed the Bronx Zoo was Disney's Animal Kingdom. I think too many locals take the Bronx Zoo for granted. The full-access admission is well worth the price. This zoo is definitely a multi-trip kind of place. You will not be able to fit even half of the sights and activities into one day.
  • Love this zoo. Loved it when I was a kid and now I love bringing my kids to it. This year we visited the treetop adventure. It was worth the long line. My kids had a blast, climbing and being up high. Visiting this zoo will take up your entire day if you want to visit all it has to offer. My kids also enjoys the extras like the butterfly house and merry go round. They have a huge cafeteria, with some vegetarian or non-meat selection.
  • Took my wife here before I proposed to her. Being here helped build up the energy to a great day and and even Bette night. After all, when you live in NYC, not like you see these animals on a regular basis. There was snow on the ground and it was freezing but I have to say seeing some of the imams was pretty cool, especially because it wasn't crowded. Nice and quiet there during the day in the middle of the week. The tiger was probably the best attraction, even though there weren't a lot of animals outside because of the winter season
  • For people using public transport, Bronx zoo is easily accessed using the 2/5 not subway lines from Manhattan. There are several entrances to the zoo and each has a subway station nearby. We went in winter, definitely a bad time to visit the zoo. Most animals were not in their exhibits. Even the seabird aviary was closed so we couldn't see the penguin feeding. Other than that I feel it's a great place to spend a day. The sea lion feeding session is definitely awesome. My personal favorites were the the aquatic birds section and the mouse house.
