#4 of 35 in Beaches in Cape Cod
Enjoy the pristine landscape and tranquil beaches of Cape Cod National Seashore, where you can observe the ocean from the lighthouse or the sandy dunes. Many visitors to the area come for the chance to see whales in their natural habitat, while groups of seals frolick just off shore most of the time. Ride along the well-kept bike paths, take a walk on many hiking trails along the seashore, or swim in the clear, calm water. The park complex contains an info booth with knowledgeable and friendly staff, a gift store, and an observation deck overlooking the sea. You can also pop into the old harbor museum for information on local history. Make Cape Cod National Seashore part of your personalized Wellfleet itinerary using our Wellfleet trip itinerary site .

  • Ideal for long walks and jogging. Good sand, some decent waves and closeness to nature. What else do you need for a relaxing holiday!

  • 12 months of the year it's great to visit the Cape Cod National Seashore. Especially in the off season when the parking lots are empty (and free), a long walk alongside the ocean and the dunes just fr...  more »

  • One of the most beautiful places on this continent. My family went surfing and had a blast. Wetsuits are recommended for early in summer. Incredible facilities including lifeguards, showers, parking, and a new boardwalk/staircase. Just download the Shark Alert app provided by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and keep your eyes peeled for large dark shapes in the water 😉!
  • Beautiful and breath taking and pretty. It was nice that there wasn't a single person there. I guess it was in the 30s when I went and very cold wind, I still enjoyed it
  • Views are great year in and year out. Can get a bit cold after dark or when the wind picks up. Super family friendly environment.
  • Between one of the best beaches and plenty of other activities around, this is my favorite beach on the Cape. Now I know the National Seashore is mainly for tourists, is colder than the bay, has more sharks, is more difficult to walk to, and has less lifeguards, but it's nearly abandoned for swimming and recreation. The views are great and the swimming is decent for the hardier people. The radio towers and history is pretty nifty and the dunes are wicked cool. The cedar swamp is a must see. Tip: If you just keep walking down the beach a bit, you'll find yourself completely away from people and by yourself on the coarse sand with a practically private beach. Pros: - Ample parking - Low parking fee (Free in some zones) - Cedar Swamp - Cool towers - Massive dunes - Empty beaches Cons: - Cold water and air temp - Sharks, man - Shallow water until a large drop off about twenty feet off the shore - Coarse sand
  • We like swimming on the sea side rather than the bay side of Cape Cod. The kids wish the waves were bigger and we wish the water was warmer, but you can't control Mother Nature, can you?
