This is the 3rd time my daughters and I have been here and we are /will go again next year. Its the kind of place and vacation that the stresses of the world disappear. By day 2, I am sleeping like a ... more »
The Elk River Guest ranch is a little piece of heaven, right here on earth. The ranch is small in size but makes up for it 10 fold, by the owner, Bex Damman (the youngest Dude Ranch owner in the Unite... more »
Loved it! Elk River was our ideal guest ranch experience with our own cabin and a view of the corral, well mannered horses, beautiful location, excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, great conversation and excellent entertainment with the Yampa Valley Boys around the campfire. The owners (Bex and Scott) make you feel like old friends and you can't forget the ranch dogs Benjamin and Madley. Intimate with a maximum guest number at fifteen. Steamboat is beautiful and only 25 miles away. Stu and Norma Jean. Sept. 2017
We (Myself and my two daughters now 7 and 9) have been to the ranch to "hang out" with Bex and the gang twice. We will be back in July of this year. Its really an amazing experience. We live in Denver so really not that far afield, but it is truly the small, high class, do it your way way to vacation. What ever you want it to be, they will make it. Long rides to amazing views? Yep. riding around the barrels and poles learning skills? yep. A trip to town to the rodeo? yep an afternoon off the horses to rest the sore areas in a kayak? yep. Great Food, Cowboy Singers, line dancing camping out ...yep yep yep yep. I guess i could go on...i recall people fishing, hiking, going to town for wine sampling, going to Strawberry hot springs ... well. I think enough said. Amazing value, memories of a life time. Worth making a family tradition for us. See ya there Sam
Given the choice of cruising the high seas or horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains, I choose the latter every time. Elk River Guest Ranch has all the amenities of the other (gourmet food, spa bath robes, alternative activities, concerts), but the breath taking views of mountain lakes, aspen glens, elk, and moonlit nights are not to be missed. We were perfectly matched with a horse for the week and regaled with tales of their personalities and adventures. The horse does all the work. Just sit back and appreciate your surroundings.
We have been going to the ranch every summer for the past 3 years and we are going back this year again! the location is remote enough that you are surrounded by nature and close enough to steamboat springs if you want more town activity. The cabins have everything you need including super plushy bathroom robes. But it is all about the activities and the company. There's riding, kayak, hiking, fishing, hot tub, dancing, the Yampa boys! and so much more! We are divided in groups by what we want to do and have amazing wranglers taking us. The kids have their own activities if they want. The ranch is not too big, so you never have too many people and you get individual attention. Then there's the food! Chef Susan makes amazing meals that will keep you asking for more! there is so much more to Elk River Guest Ranch! Once you go, you'll want to go back!
This is a most remarkable guest ranch, the most friendly and intelligent staff and of course owners, young brilliant honest beautiful people and super happy well cared for and excellently trained horses. The landscape and rides are to die for, totally gorgeous. The meals a feast each time prepared by a super trained professional chef who is also delightful.
