  • A very wonderful place to stay and play on a seashore. We camped right on the beach for free. The staff at the visitor center were very knowledgeable and conduct different tours daily. The park and surrounding area was clean and dump staying was serviceable. You can take a drive down the coast, on the beach, to see the sights if you are a 4 wheel drive vehicle. If you do this, please stop at the visitor center and grab a trash bag top help pick up the trash that floats up on to the shore. As a suggestion, maybe the park could offer a discount for trash pick up. The reason for the missing star is lack of enforcement. Camping on the beach can be hazardous with the speed of traffic and tight driving conditions as the tide rises. It is posted 15 MPH, for the first section were the majority of campers are staying, and goes to 25 farther down the beach. There are Park Enforcement Rangers but even they drove close and fast to the campers on the beach. One morning the "Friends of Padre Island" truck passed by so close and fast I would have lost my door if I had opened it. Please slow down, children and pets are not safe camping or playing on the beach.
  • This place is amazing! There are so few places where you can take a camper Van right on to the beach, have a campfire and stay for free. You need to be very mindful of the tides because if they are extremely high they will hit the dunes. You also need to be mindful of the weather because in the rain you could easily get stuck. But there really is nothing like waking up to pelicans flying overhead.
  • I was amazed at the beach. It is one of my favorites. There is a beach to drive on, and there is a closed beach with a pavilion with restrooms. There are several attractions to see, and lots of places to explore. Instead of paying alot of money to have a beach front hotel, Stay in-land to save money and drive right to the beach everyday. We have done this a few times now, and it works out great. (If you don't mind the sand in your car) If you do not have an off road vehicle or 4x4, be careful. Had to push several cars out of the sand. Also, the public restrooms were only at the pavilion and at the beach entrance. Plan accordingly!
  • We enjoy driving onto the national seashore, going in 4 wheel drive about 25 miles down to Big Shell Beach and finding the best treasures! It is very secluded and you have mile long stretches of beach to yourself with only the occasional passing truck who will almost always wave and be friendly. Best camping and shells you can find!
  • Great spot to spend a day on the beach. You park on the beach or next to the dunes. A few jellyfish did wash up on shore, but they're easy enough to spot and avoid. You need to watch your pets and make sure they don't get too close to the road. I'll definitely be coming back
