#2 of 16 in Museums in Denver
A million reflective glass tiles, and numerous oddly shaped steel and titanium structures of Denver Art Museum, guard 68,000 art pieces from all over the world. The museum is well known for its Native American collection, and pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art objects. You will see sculptures, drawings, jewelry, and textiles from Africa and the Pacific islands, as well as Asian arts and crafts. Fifty-five hundred pieces from the Americas are preserved here. Apart from winning numerous awards for its collections, the museum has also been included in USA Today's list of family-friendly museums, where kids can play and learn through projects and workshops. • The Denver Art museum is a great visit while visiting Denver. It's relatively quick to get through (due to a portion of the museum currently being closed) for a museum and has a lot of phenomenal exhi...  more »

  • Read about the Denver Art Museum in a brochure at our B&B and decided to check it out. A large portion of the museum is dedicated to Native American artifacts. Really found it interesting and unique. ...  more »

  • One of the most interesting buildings you will see/visit. Go to the Denver Public Library and look at it from the top floor to truly see how interesting it is on high. Most of the museum was closed for remodel and repair this trip, but it is still has a nice collection of pieces and each floor has a kids area with activities and an area just for them. There are also sketch pad and pens & pencils for free to use which is nice touch. There are light weight stools you easily carry if you like that make decent "walkers" as well and they are free to use. There is decent Starbucks franchise in the gift shop for coffee if you like as well. Nice spot to visit for a few hours.
  • It's always a great day at the Denver Art Museum. We loved the guided tour of Her Paris, there are just so many new details to learn about the period, relationship of fellow artists and their modern day influences. Many thanks to a great team of volunteers who are so knowledgeable and invested. We will be back for Degas! BTW, if you are a parent or caregiver, there are many resources and volunteers ready to help you actively participate in making and enjoying art at every visit. A very creatively managed program full of options.
  • When I visited the museum, the North Building was closed for renovations, and there were exhibitions on each of the three top floors in the main building. The architecture of the main building is breathtaking, both inside and out. The second floor held the Her Paris exhibition, a beautiful exhibit featuring women painters during the Impressionistic period. This exhibit is one of the best I've ever seen. However, the top two floors had an animal art exhibit, which was a bit too much for me. Maybe if one floor had something different, the visit would've been perfect, but the museum really seemed to be focused on animal art, hence the four stars.
  • Nice museum. The top floor and several areas were blocked off due to remodeling so I will need to revisit at a later date. I enjoyed the large rooms dedicated to specific regions or areas of time. Every room had items that would make you stop and think or just stare looking at how it was made or time time it took. Several beautiful pieces and historical pieces line the wall and alleys in this wonder museum. Denver has done well with this building and it will continue to grow to become greater for sure.
  • What a wonderful museum! The free days are such are crazy bargain, and children 18 and under are always free. Such a great deal for families! We highly recommend the backpacks that are available for kids to explore certain exhibits in extra detail with crafts and activities. Plus there are usually opportunities for kids to create art. We always have a wonderful time with the hands on as well as great-to-see art.
