Anhinga Trail, Everglades National Park

4.6
#2 of 54 in Trails in Florida
Enjoy an easy hike and observe the wildlife on Anhinga Trail, a boardwalk over Taylor Slough that is 6 km (4 mi) from the Everglades National Park entrance. Walk out 600 m (0.4 miles) over a sawgrass marsh area. From the boardwalk, visitors can often see many different Everglades species, from local birds to large reptiles, such as alligators. The trail is wheelchair-accessible, but cycling is not allowed. Plan my trip to Everglades National Park with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

  • Unfortunately for incompetence of our travel agency we didn't see more of the Park. This stretch was really beautiful. Alligators, ponds and birds. Seen at sunset, impressive!

  • Absolutely amazing. Any visit to the Everglades MUST include this trail. By far the most impressive gathering of wildlife I have ever seen outside of a zoo, and with no fences or glass! You can't touch anything, obviously, but you can get pretty close to some of them. Tons of birds, plenty of alligators, and cute little turtles you can spot if you look closely. It's a short trail, so take your time and enjoy!
  • Probably the best trail for those with young children. A short drive down the main road from the Ernest F Coe visitor center. The trail itself is well maintained and straightforward. It's also very short but one of the best places to see wildlife! You can see cranes, alligators, turtles and fish very easily.
  • Make sure to arrive early in order to see lots of wildlife. We were there in April, it was beautiful, we have seen probably 30-40 gators swimming and resting. Some were really close to the trail you could almost touch it (don't;)). Plus we saw so many different birds, fish, turtles and later we drove to Flamingo center and spotted a manatee. You can guess that when we returned to that trail in July and October afternoon (sleepy heads) we saw absolutely nothing and it was unbearably humid and hot.
  • Parking was easy. (Just be aware of the vultures hanging out on your parked car and picking at the rubber). Trail seemed well maintained and was perfect for a short nature walk. We went early so only saw one alligator on the path. We saw several others in the water. Didn't see too many fish, but saw a few different birds. Definitely worth it.
  • Beautiful walk through the everglades. Was a little cool and the water was higher than usual. Thing's look good after our storms.
