Hours: Must be the first to arrive, 8 am, between less people, more likely to climb the mountain several times. Team: I recommend to rent the equipment previously, it is cheaper in stores in Denver and not lose time in rows. Food: I think it is expensive, it is best to carry water, a sandwich and search where to eat after skiing first time? Kinds of first order, is the best investment, there because it hurt.
Had a great time. Lots of options with lifts and runs from green to double black. Easy to get to with the main parking lot. Closest to the first lifts we've seen! more »
This was my husband and I’s first time skiing. We had an amazing time! I definitely recommend ski lessons. It is not as easy as it looks. My husband thinks it’s always dumb to pay for lessons for anyt... more »
Underrated area because it’s not part of a conglomerate and it’s near the tunnel. Meanwhile, this place has some of the best exposures in Colorado. Great snowfall and not too windy like some of the other nearby mountains. On a powder day, the slopes north of I-70 offer some of the steepest and deepest in bounds terrain the state. The area above timberline isn’t nearly as windswept as some of the same terrain on other mountains just west. They also have decent vertical despite their “local mountain” reputation.
First time here and our 2nd ski trip in about 20 years! Don't have much to compare to but we had a wonderful time here. Beautiful weather & perfect snow. It was spring break but people were spread out and the lift lines moved very fast. I only noticed the crowds when we ate lunch at the Basin lodge. We parked at the Valley around 8:00 which was an hour before the lifts opened. We sat in the lodge and enjoyed a cup of hot cocoa. We loved the Valley's runs. Since we are newer to skiing there were plenty of easier runs for us. We took the shuttle to the Basin for lunch and stayed the rest of the afternoon. Absolutely LOVED the ptarmigan lift!!! Gorgeous views at the top!!!! And still had access to a green run. We got hot cocoa at the small cafe too. Waited about 20 minutes to get this but it was a nice break from the wind. We rented our ski gear at a shop in Idaho Springs because it was cheaper so I can't comment on their gear. We also got free tickets from a friend but I've heard it's one of the more affordable resorts and it's so close to Denver! I would recommend checking out the 4 pack deal that is available before the season starts. The lifts were fine but there are no safety bars but that didn't bother us. It also would have been nice if the lift worked that connects the Valley and Basin. But to sum it up, we loved it and will go back! Thanks Loveland!
Awesome location. Great, humble staff. The prices are super reasonable. Skiing itself is not cheap but their pieces are lower than other ski resorts nearby. If you’re a beginner looking for a good experience and a lot of fun, you’re going to like Loveland. Great views, cheap prices and helpful staff. You can save some money by bringing your lunch also. They have a storage locker for you to rent if you decide to bring some food or simple store some belongings. There is also a cafeteria with food and refreshments. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Visiting Colorado from Orlando, FL. My friends and I were researching for months places to go snowboarding around Idaho Springs. We all kept hearing about Breckenridge but the prices were really high for something that we were probably not going to do too much of. We got to Colorado and at the Alamo renting place at the airport, a nice gentleman recommended Loveland. We started comparing Breckenridge to Loveland, and clearly Loveland won. The prices were fair and it wasn't too far away from the cabin we were staying in. We called and asked for the prices over the phone and exactly what we heard its exactly what we got when we got there. We did the half day special along with renting the gear and the snowboard. Everyone was extremely nice and very helpful. They guided us in how to use the boards, how to wear the gear, and which mountain is good for beginners. Everyone in the renting the clothes were extremely helpful and they answered all of our questions. We went up the lift and went down on the mountain (its harder than it looks but we did it) as we were coming down the mountain I lost my phone. I was going crazy cause back where I'm from, I wouldn't see the phone again. I went in and out of the rental clothes place looking for the phone, went up and down the mountain and asked all the workers if they seen it and all of them said no, that if they find it, they'll turn it in. As we were getting ready to leave someone asked us in the rental place of we had fun and I responded "a lot of fun, even though I lost my phone" she kept talking to my friends but I walked away. My friends came out with MY PHONE! I'm forever thankful for this place and everyone there because they were beyond helpful. I also got to fulfilled my long time dream, SNOWBOARD!
Loveland has plenty of snow and good terrain. The snow cat and hike-to terrain is excellent for advanced skiers. Food and drink is reasonably priced, especially compared to larger resorts. A good portion of their terrain is above treeline. Combine this with strong winds (which are common at Loveland!) and you get some miserably cold days where you're stuck on lift one because it's the only sheltered lift. Overall, it's a good resort for the price.
