Troegs Brewing Company, Hershey

#2 of 19 in Breweries in Pennsylvania
Tröegs is an American brewery located on Hersheypark Drive in Hershey, Pennsylvania. John and Chris Trogner founded the company in 1996. Tröegs is a craft-brewery, or microbrewery focusing their production on specialty and seasonal beers. Tröegs also is a limited distribution brewery, only distributing beer to states within proximity to maintain beer freshness.HistoryTröegs Brewery was founded in 1996 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by brothers John (born 1972) and Chris Trogner (born 1973). The name Tröegs is a combination of a nickname derived from the surname Trogner and the Dutch word kroeg ("pub"). The brewery was originally located at 800 Paxton Street in Harrisburg. Their first keg was sold to a Harrisburg restaurant in July, 1997.Tröegs began construction of their new brewery in 2010 and moved from Harrisburg to Hershey in fall 2011. Grand opening celebrations were held during November of that year. At approximately 90,000 square feet the new brewery is about three times the size of the original facility and includes a tap house (tasting room) with a full view of the brewhouse. The tap house bar serves most beer by the glass, although a select few, including "corked-and-caged" beers, are sold by the bottle. Most of Tröeg's beers are available "to go"—as 4-packs, 6-packs, cases, growlers, and, most recently, as "crowlers" (32-ounce aluminum cans filled from a tap and then sealed; a portmanteau of "can" and "growler"). However, a few bottled beers have been available for consumption only in the tap room. The tap room also features an upscale "snack bar."

  • The beer store is great- lots of options. There is a free tour you can take that is self paced and very cool. You can also arrange for a guided tour through different parts of the brewery. The tasting...  more »

  • One of the neatest breweries I've been to, and I've been to quite a few! The setup is HUGE - there is probably room for 250 people in the bar / dining area. It is a seat-yourself kind of place, and children are welcome (we saw a ton running around and playing!) There are servers walking around to tables, but the best bet is going up and waiting in line for the bar on a busy day. They have so many options, there is a beer for everyone! The food scene is different than anywhere I've been, it's like having an indoor food truck or a school cafeteria in the brewery. You go up[ to the food stand, wait in line and then order your food, which is eventually delivered on a tray! This is a really neat place; if you're into craft beer at all you've got to stop in.
  • This is, hands down, the coolest brewery I have been to. The layout, design, and space are all phenomenal. The food is excellent, the beer is phenomenal, and the pricing is very reasonable. Our party of 5 all got a beer and shared appetizers, getting completely stuffed, for only $60. If you do decide to visit, be sure to go on the guided tour (and book online before you go!). You get a beer to start, tastings throughout, and a glass at the end. It's well worth the money, and it's really fun. Don't miss the opportunity to visit next time you're in Hershey!
  • PROS: Reasonably priced, cool building, self guided tour available CONS: Not a large selection of beers, long lines, like many reviews- SO MANY KIDS and nothing for them to do. Seating situation was crazy, when we got up we were swarmed with people trying to get our spot. Did not try the food but it looked great!
  • Amazing beer. Our only sadness is we didn't have time to try them all. Love the set up of the place and the feel. Staff is super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I have food allergies and didn't expect to eat there, but the chef said it was no big deal. And it wasn't to him. Wonderful food without a single issue. We thanked him and he brushed it off, because he is a wonderful man and a great cook.
  • Great brewery experience. They had an extensive offering of beers with many styles to choose from. The place is huge with lots of seating, but if my visit was indicative of a usual Saturday crowd expect to share a table to enjoy your beer. Two things I found strange, no Tv's with sports and the walk up ordering of food, but with the majority of tables being communal I can see how table service could get confusing. The beers I had were both excellent, I wish I could have tried more but we were short on time.
