  • We thoroughly enjoyed our time aboard the USS Yorktown!! We spent hours roaming the ship and felt like we only scratched the surface. There are 5 self-guided tours through different parts of the ship that have enough signage to explain what you're seeing. We had considered buying the audio tour, but were glad we decided not to. Our 7 year old twins loved the experience as well. The many, many steep staircases (ladders?) made for tired little legs by the end, but getting to sit in the captain's chair on the bridge made up for it! Plan to spend several hours here if you really want to do the experience justice. Also, beware of the Sticky Fingers cafe as being a lunch option....it's actually more of a snack bar with a few picnic tables in front of it. We packed a lunch and relaxed in our car while we ate lunch. The parking lot has great views of the harbor and Yorktown, so it was nice to sit down and relax away from the crowds as we ate lunch.
  • Take your time here spend the whole day see the ship and next to it is how it was for our guys in Vietnam. Speakers and great sound affects. There is a place to buy food but 6.00 for a shake was way over the top. The ship is real so are the planes. A lot of informational programs. Elevator for handicapped. Kid friendly. A must see for all ages
  • Awesome experience. Wish I had done the audio tour. Kids really enjoyed the experience as well. The aircraft carrier is well preserved with many plaques to explain different aspects. The audio tour probably has much more information. The engine room tour is interesting but the most crowded and least laid out tour arrows, some got lost. There are many very steep stairs but also an elevator available for some of the tour. The destroyer was fun. It had two different simulations to see and they were interesting. The poor sub is rusting away. The information guy said that it would soon be going to become a artificial reef. Overall my family and I really enjoyed it and would likely return again.
  • Great experience! I highly recommend. It is well worth the price. Great for families with school aged kids. Great history lessons. We loved climbing around the ship decks and getting to experience the life on deck like the crew did. Much better than a video or just walking around a musuem exhibit.
  • My little sister was visiting me here in SC and I decided to take her to Patriots Point before she and my son deployed to Afghanistan. We absolutely had the best time. So much to do and see at Patriots Point, from the battleship walk through, to the Vietnam Experience (top notch!), to the cruise to Fort Sumter (our favorite). If you want to visit Fort Sumter, you must take a thirty minute water taxi there & back, but it's so worth the ride. The tour guides are informative, friendly, and personable. You can walk all over the beautiful, scenic grounds of Fort Sumter for an hour and visit the small gift shop. The water taxi cruise is enjoyable. Watch dolphins play and pelicans dive for their dinner. Drinks and snacks are available for purchase on cruise. Plenty of seating on deck and inside the boat. Plan on spending an entire day here if you want to enjoy everything. We arrived at 10:30 and finished sometime after 5 pm and that was at a brisk pace. You'll feel like a true patriot after leaving Patriots Point. I highly recommend the Vietnam Experience. You get a small taste of life in a combat zone and can imagine the daily grind the soldiers experienced. The grounds are simulated to resemble different areas. There are boats on the water (with actual recordings), simulated ammunition and explosions, jungle sounds. Climb the watch tower. Explore the latrine, mess hall, and bunkers. There's a simulation room that left my heart beating wildly. I was highly emotional after walking out. Quite the experience. Don't skip it.
