Belle Meade Plantation, Nashville

4.5
#2 of 13 in Historic Sites in Nashville
The historical Belle Meade Plantation, established in 1807, has served as a thoroughbred stud breeding ground, an extensive farm with a cotton gin, and a Confederate general’s headquarters. Take a tour of Greek-Revival mansion, restored to its turn-of-the-century appearance, and several original outbuildings. You can explore the dairy, carriage house, mausoleum, stable, and reconstructed slave quarters as a costumed guide narrates the property’s history. After the tour, head to the onsite winery for a free tasting. Also swing by Harding House restaurant for some Southern hospitality. • Tons of History here. This place is Simply Amazing! The tour staff is so very knowledgeable and everyone is super friendly. This place is excellent for tour groups, and very educational for bringing kids on field trips. The history here is amazing and the scenery is gorgeous. The home is spectacular and the grounds are always very neat and clean. There are picnic areas outside 2 have a snack or picnic lunch and also areas for you to do your own self guided tour
  • Wonderful attraction near Nashville! The tour of the mansion is about 45 minutes long and tells you a bit about the history of the family and their famous horse racing legacy. If you go at Christmas time, like I did, they also talk about the various Christmas traditions through the ages. Each room is decorated according to a different time period associated with the house. The grounds at Belle Meade are also good for exploring.
  • Great historical Nashville spot. Cool to look at the grounds. Very informative tour, and tour guide was very nice. Cute winery and spot for sitting and enjoying a summer day. Highly recommend, especially in nice weather!
  • I didn't know what to expect, it's an old mansion that can be toured. Tour was conducted in small groups, guides are dressed in period clothing, and they explain and answer questions. Two floors are open to the public, all the rooms are viewable. Very elegant old home. The carriage house has carriages to see, there's a winery, two gift shops and you can just stroll the grounds if you like. The downside is photography is forbidden. There's also a nice restaurant there.
  • Great place to visit! A lot of history and interesting facts regarding race horse breading. You're going to love it!
