Belle Meade Plantation, Nashville

4.5
#2 of 19 in Historic Sites in Nashville
The historical Belle Meade Plantation, established in 1807, has served as a thoroughbred stud breeding ground, an extensive farm with a cotton gin, and a Confederate general’s headquarters. Take a tour of Greek-Revival mansion, restored to its turn-of-the-century appearance, and several original outbuildings. You can explore the dairy, carriage house, mausoleum, stable, and reconstructed slave quarters as a costumed guide narrates the property’s history. After the tour, head to the onsite winery for a free tasting. Also swing by Harding House restaurant for some Southern hospitality. • Wonderful tour by the guides, in addition to the info in the tour they had answers to questions fielded by the guests. Enjoyed the history and care taken to present the mansion and it's history to the public. While you are not allowed pictures inside the mansion, the grounds are fair game and provide enough entertainment and size to occupy a good hour or more depending on your interest. I recommend anyone with a passing interest in history to spend a half day or so here, you won't regret it.
  • Beautiful grams and Mansion. Our tour guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions asked. Wine tasting was fun as well. I even bought a bottle of their Blackberry wine. The grounds are beautiful. They have a spot to enjoy wine and cheese if the weather is nice. I will return in the summer.
  • Very cool place! I learned a lot of history from the on site archeologist, how cool is that! They call this place a "plantation" and from the south you would typically think cotton or tobacco but alas, they were an industry plantation. They mainly focused on horse racing and breeding and had some very successful blood lines come out of that house. This is the birthplace of the Secretariat blood line. Definitely recommend if your going to visit Nashville.. oh I forgot to mention they have a free wine tasting after you tour the house. Some of the best desert wine I have ever tasted. Great place to get some southern history.
  • Tons of History here. This place is Simply Amazing! The tour staff is so very knowledgeable and everyone is super friendly. This place is excellent for tour groups, and very educational for bringing kids on field trips. The history here is amazing and the scenery is gorgeous. The home is spectacular and the grounds are always very neat and clean. There are picnic areas outside 2 have a snack or picnic lunch and also areas for you to do your own self guided tour
  • This place is so neat, and is in the heart of a beautiful area of Nashville. We toured the grounds and the plantation house. I highly recommend the house tour. It's super informative and very interesting! There is also an on-site winery.
