New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans

4.5
The city park provides a fitting backdrop for New Orleans Museum of Art, which features art from around the world. With particularly impressive collections of French and American art, photography, glass, and African and Japanese art, the museum now features nearly 40,000 works of art. Opened in 1911, it is the city's oldest institution for fine arts. You'll find works by Picasso, Renoir, Monet, and Jackson Pollock on display inside, and 2 hectares (five acres) of sculpture gardens on the museum's grounds. The sculpture garden showcases over 60 sculptures by artists from around the world and includes mature pine, magnolia, and oak trees. New Orleans Museum of Art is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, New Orleans Edition.

  • The museum is on the small side but the price is reasonable. We spent under 2 hours in it. It is worth a visit if you are in the area.  more »

  • We had a wonderful morning here and could've spent much more time looking around. There was a wide variety of collections, so I would say there is something for everyone. We spent most of our time in the Woman's Archetype Exhibit, which was a real treat. That alone was worth the money, even though I know it won't be there forever. They do offer discounts for students and military! Clean bathrooms!
  • They have very beautiful art collections! Evening better was the fact that it is free on Wednesday. They were kind, and also kept the luggage that we had for a few hours so that we could see around. Friendly staff and wonderful time spent at the heart of city park! This is definitely a must-visit area of you are in the area!
  • Alexander McQueen designs on display..omg..just amazing. One of my favorite pieces was the installation from Hurricane Katrina it speaks volumes, the museum is light and easy to walk through teenagers are free every Wednesday up to age 17. There is a $5 charge to see Alexander McQueen designs. They offer many discounts bring your ID cards
  • This is a great museum. It is small so it cannot compete with some of the world's greatest art museums but it is nice. The special exhibits seem to change around every six weeks and are often worth a visit themselves. My favorite part of NOMA is the sculpture garden. I believe there are around 60 different sculptures and they are displayed along a walking path with fountains, flowers, and other aesthetically pleasing landscaping. When the weather is nice this can be a great way to spend a couple of hours. Insider tips - The museum is free for Louisiana residents on Wednesdays. There is no admission fee for the sculpture garden. Stop by "Morning Call " for coffee while you are in the park or stroll around the Bayou. The park is beautiful and worth a visit whether you are a local or a tourist.
  • Beautiful art works. I love their Special events. Art in the bloom was one of my favorites. This place has a cafe inside and coat check room to check extra items in so that you don’t have to carry stuff around.
