Bear Country USA, Rapid City

4.3
#1 of 19 in Wildlife in South Dakota
Set on over 101 hectares (250 acres) in the Black Hills, Bear Country USA hosts a large collection of North American mammals, particularly black bears. The park's animals generally move unhindered through outdoor exhibits. You'll see that the site is not a zoo, but rather a 4.8 km (3 mi) open air "safari" experience you can tour by car. Don't miss the park's special Babyland exhibit, where young animals and smaller species, such as the resident population of bear cubs, can often be seen playing. • Many animals and a great way to see the Park on by car through the site, will close close to the bears and the other animals.

  • We LOVED the bears! It's a drive through that the bears are just kind of freely walking about. There's other animals too but not the same as a bear walking next to your car. And there's cute cubs at t...  more »

  • Seems pricey to see a bunch of bears laying around all day getting sunburned. Truth be told, you've seen one bear, you've seen them all. 🐻🐻🐻 🐼🐼 I can't tell the difference between a Brown Bear and a Panda Bear. Can you ?? ......Yea right. If you have kids, it is a fun experience. They will really like the baby cubs at the end. 🐾🐾🐾
  • It was a bit on the pricey side. But, my family and I really enjoyed it. The drive through was nice. Most of the animals happened to be sleeping when we went but as soon as we hit the part with the bears it was very exciting! Nothing like holding up traffic because a bear decided he wanted to sit and take a break right in front of your vehicle. After the drive through we stopped to walk around their other exhibit and it was well worth it. The kids and I could have stayed all day just watching the bear cubs play! Very entertaining and memories we will never forget!
  • I liked it. The entrance was right off the highway. It was busy when we arrived so it took about 1 1/2 hours to drive through. However, the time passes fast because of the scenery. If you are in a rush, go during off peak hours. The baby cubs were adorable. I thought the price was high for one SUV though. Probably won't return
  • Pretty animals. They have multiple big, open fenced in areas you drive through. They have pens with bears, wolves, Rams, and more! Really cool being right in the pens with them. Also they have other animals in a side area that is like a zoo. It's also where they keep the baby bears.
  • As far as I know, Bear Country USA is the only drive-through wildlife attraction in South Dakota. The kids will love the excitement when they realize the animals could come right up to their windows! So when you get the family loaded up and head to Mount Rushmore, make sure you make a stop at Bear Country USA. It's an affordable family fun stop in our beautiful Black Hills.
