Peanut Island Park, Riviera Beach

#1 of 15 in Things to do in Riviera Beach
A sandy beach, palm trees, and a man-made reef just off shore make Peanut Island Park a worthy attraction--but it's the 1960s bomb shelter supposedly built for President John F. Kennedy that remains the island's real draw for out-of-towners. Check out the bunker before choosing some of the other numerous activities available here. Take to the 2 km (1.25 mi) walking path that rings the island, and detour out on the reef boardwalk, which extends 85 m (280 ft) over the water and provides a chance to see manatees. If you have your snorkeling gear, swim around the artificial reef in the lagoon to spot angelfish, damselfish, parrotfish, and crabs. At the maritime hammock on the island's west side, watch for osprey, brown pelicans, and white ibis. The island has numerous first-come, first-served picnic facilities--some with grills--so bring your lunch if you want. • We took paddle boards and there is also a ferry provided to get over to the island and set up camp for a night or two. I would suggest going after October as there may be less bugs, the no-seeums wher...  more »
  • We LOVE camping (even day trips) at/to peanut island. Clean bathrooms, clean grounds, friendly staff and it’s just a boat ride away from “land”. We had four campsites this past trip and stayed for the...  more »
  • Located near West Palm Beach, this place is ideal for snorkeling. It costs $ 12 per person to take a boat taxi (10 minutes through) you can rent a kayak and get by you even. The taxi boat is available from 10hrs to 5 hrs. The place is ideal to practice snorkeling, since it is close to the beach and shallow by place. Ideal for the family and for all those who want to learn this activity!

  • A touch of paradise and a beautiful place to enjoy a day or more when camping. We love taking the water taxi to this island to have a picnic, snorkeling, watching the ships, walking, relaxing, etc. We always bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy the beauty of the water and all around. It is definitely a place to bring kids and just have fun!
  • Join Captain Tim, My Islands Adventure charter and snorkel Peanut Island. You will have the best time on his private yacht charter. Full gear and thousands of sea life and fish to see. High tide is most beautiful time of the day!
  • This place is amazing! It is so beautiful and serene. We had the most amazing time snorkeling and walking the island. So many different species of fish to see, and the water was turquoise and clear. Absolutely worth the money for the taxi ride over and snorkeling gear. Will def be back again.
  • A fun day trip during the weekday. A huge party place on the weekends. Check out the great snorkelling on the east end of the island.
  • Great place for family fun out doors.
