Peanut Island Park, Riviera Beach

A sandy beach, palm trees, and a man-made reef just off shore make Peanut Island Park a worthy attraction--but it's the 1960s bomb shelter supposedly built for President John F. Kennedy that remains the island's real draw for out-of-towners. Check out the bunker before choosing some of the other numerous activities available here. Take to the 2 km (1.25 mi) walking path that rings the island, and detour out on the reef boardwalk, which extends 85 m (280 ft) over the water and provides a chance to see manatees. If you have your snorkeling gear, swim around the artificial reef in the lagoon to spot angelfish, damselfish, parrotfish, and crabs. At the maritime hammock on the island's west side, watch for osprey, brown pelicans, and white ibis. The island has numerous first-come, first-served picnic facilities--some with grills--so bring your lunch if you want. • The Island is a family sanctuary featuring great snorkeling, pathways, overnight camping and swimming. Best ways to get over are via water taxi stops from nearby Sailfish Marina or Riviera Beach Marina - or anchor your boat right along the shoreline. Take a tour of the John F. Kennedy Bunker, a historical reminder of the Cold War of the 60s.
  • What a treasure in the midst of all three glitz. Protected, guarded swimming. Camping and hiking.
  • My Island's Adventure charter with Captain Tim Hoban will show you the best Peanut Island experience!!
  • A touch of paradise and a beautiful place to enjoy a day or more when camping. We love taking the water taxi to this island to have a picnic, snorkeling, watching the ships, walking, relaxing, etc. We always bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy the beauty of the water and all around. It is definitely a place to bring kids and just have fun!
  • Awesome place to hang out.
