Baker Beach, San Francisco

4.7
#7 of 65 in Outdoors in San Francisco
While it remains too dangerous for swimming, Baker Beach is one of the best spots in the city to take in views of San Francisco's iconic bridge. This public beach stretches along the Pacific just northwest of the city, which makes it easily accessible by various modes of transportation. Keep in mind that the northernmost section of the beach tends to attract nudists. A visit to Baker Beach represents just the start of the adventure when you use our San Francisco trip planning app to plot your vacation.

  • Beautiful place, quiet beach with a magnificent view of the Golden Gate. There are public baths in perfect condition, but there is nothing to eat, take everything you need if you were to spend the day. The view of the sunset is wonderful.

  • We stopped here as we were passing through SF. We had never seen the Golden Gate Bridge in person so we wanted to see it before crossing it and this beach gives you an incredible view of it! But the b...  more »
  • You can see the bridge on the right side of you. The beach is beautiful. Lot of dogs not on a leash. There is also random areas with nude people so be on a alert with younger kids.  more »

  • I was able to see dolphins swimming which was quite a pleasant surprise. This place definitely provides one of the best views of Golden Gate bridge. Since its January and it was week day there was not much crowd. I will definitely come back to this place during summer time. Pictures came out really well.
  • Its the beach, under the Golden Gate Bridge, how could it not be a 5 in and of itself! There is ample parking here, with clean bathrooms. No wheelchair friendly to get to the beach. From my understanding, there is a nude beach included here if you keep walking toward the Golden Gate bridge, but I haven't seen anything of the sort. There are breathtaking views here. The iconic Golden Gate in the background, is a must stop for a great photo op.
  • It is the best view for Golden Gate Backdrop. One of the best place in San Francisco city. Great place for watching sun set. Be aware of some time windy and fog. Wear layers.
  • Free parking Great place to relax by the coast and walk around. Several fisherman and dogs playing fetch. It's great! It's breezy so bring a jacket or two.
  • Relatively small beach but with a great backdrop for photos on either end. Popular with tourists as well as locals and great as a family spot (the infamous nudes stay away from the busier areas and have their own spot at the end near the bridge). It's a great spot to relax, soak in the sun, watch birds and ships (and dolphins if you are lucky!)
