de Young Museum, San Francisco

Rebuilt after an earthquake, de Young Museum can resist seismic shaking with its striking twisted tower. This modern complex in Golden Gate Park holds collections of American and contemporary international art. Archives of American art dating back to the 17th century, including textiles and costumes, make the museum exceptional. Textiles come from as far away as Turkey, and the costumes showcase early fashions from designers such as Christian Dior. • I recently went to the Met In NYC to see the Heavenly Bodies exhibit and was disappointed. I've gotten used to the caliber of exhibits at the de Young and the Met doesn't do nearly as good a job. The ...  more »
  • I live in Atlanta and spend a lot of time in my city's museum, The High. This museum reminds me a lot of the High, with many of the same artists on display in both. The de Young has a little bit of ev...  more »
  • If you're a designer, architect or coming any related design history literature fields this is the place to go to, learn much about this continent's history here at this amazing building. CHECK THE TOWER/VISTA POINT OUT FOR FREE. YOU'LL LOVE IT. Explore everywhere but don't go to sleep walking around cuz you need hours to explore this building. Have a coffee and Just enjoy it with using company of someone. Food is good too. The only down side of this building is the water fountains. They are located in a very odd spot. Right next to the Toilet entries. This needs to be fixed.
  • Remodeled beautifully! Located in Golden Gate Park next to the Japanese Tea Garden. This museum has so much history for you to take in and still gives you more! A great place for young adults to engage in art. A wonderful place for those adults who wishes to keep learning of this world! Can spend hours there and never once become bored!
  • The Teotihuacan: City of Water, City of Fire exhibition was amazing. The place is well laid out and the buildings are really cool. Definitely check out the observatory tower. Pro tip : Pack light or check your bags in the basement level. You can't have a backpack on your back; you'll be required to carry it around your arms (below waist level is what they said).
  • This is a "Best of SF Don't Miss" ...the de Young Musuem is one of the best things about San Francisco. Frankly, do not judge the impressive museum shows by the very weak Summer of love. You can wander from multiple galleries and be dazzled by the vast collections. Take the Elevator to the top -for one of the best City Views in SF Note: the famous The Bouquet des Arts is amazing and packed. Book early. Wonderful restaurant. Music and dances on various Friday nights.
