San Francisco Bay, San Francisco

4.7
#2 of 518 in Nature in California
San Francisco sits on the tip of a peninsula, surrounded by San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate strait, and the Pacific Ocean. To explore the bay's shoreline, walk, skate, or bike along the Bay Trail, which is paved within the city. To explore the region from the water, board one of many tour boats. Known for its strong westerly winds, the natural harbor is a mecca for sailors, windsurfers, and kitesurfers. The bay is also a natural nursery for native crab, halibut, and salmon, as well as being a key link in the "Pacific Flyway," a major north-south route used by migratory birds. If you want to hang out by the water, especially on a sunny day, join locals at Marina Green (30 hectare) 74 acre expanse of grass between Fort Mason and the Presidio. • Nice flight, no troubles, no delays, just a long but direct flight. Above Canada can be a bit bumpy but the rest was fine. A lot of food, tasty food, Windows with nice black out effect and friendly st...  more »
  • For me the most beautiful area of San Francisco! A place is extensive with a variety of bars and restaurants. It is also beautiful to walk and walk. It is an area where there is much movement of people but can travel with peace of mind.

  • What can I say that hasn't been said a million times...nevertheless, what a spectacular aquatic playground. My day gig is Captain of Cat Ballou, a charter catamaran out of Sausalito so I spend quite a bit of time on this lively body of water. It still takes my breath away. Do yourself a favor and get on/in SF Bay...
  • I went to San Francisco to participate in pathstar week-long experience and adventure to swim from Alcatraz Island to the Aquatic Center. I played tourist. I did make the swim and it was awesome. Not many people get to see San Francisco from the water. San Francisco is a great tourist E-Town, lost the sea, lots to do, lots of places to eat at.
  • A beautiful place to be... Sailing through the bay below the bridges and besides other sail boats was a memorable day for sure... Golden gate mesmerizing view from sea is a thing to witness...
  • The bay has extensive waterways all around SF, which are so much fun to explore by various ferries. It's always a treat to be on the water. The views are incredible and the fresh winds will free you from all the clutter of daily life issues.
  • I never thought or knew much about the Bay until I discovered the Bay Trail. There's so many different things to do and just a great place to escape for awhile.
