Cathedral Rock, Sedona

4.8
#1 of 31 in Parks in Sedona
Soak in the dramatic scenery of red desert hills and endless blue sky while hiking at Cathedral Rock. One of the state’s most iconic landmarks, the sandstone rock formation takes the shape of a cathedral perched majestically above the rest of the landscape. Wind through the rock’s three saddles, or gaps, on the short but steep 2.4 km (1.5 mi) hike. Be sure to carry extra water and wear sturdy hiking shoes with you as the trail is rigorous in certain places. • My wife and I had a great time hiking here. We got up pretty high and some of the cliffs are pretty steep. Some of the people climbing here had no business even being on flat ground yet alone climbing up this stuff kicking rocks all over people. Aside from all that, this place was absolutely beautiful. If you go to the back side of the rocks, you can see where magma was forcing the earth upward.
  • It’s an awesome time! We love Sedona and Cathedral Rock! The views are great and the path itself is enjoyable definitely worth the visit. Last time we went we even met a member of the cast from Impractical Jokers, which made he experience all the more memorable. Check it out if you are in town!
  • A beautiful chapel with picturesque vistas of surrounding Sedona rocks and vegetation...one can hike or drive up to the chapel...the surrounding views and unique chapel are the reward! I love a REAL church that is not established in a commercial center as I so often see these days. This is a historical site from the 1950s and beautifully preserved/maintained.
  • While in Sedona it is not hard to notice a natural wonders of red Sandstone formations they're all outstanding they're all within a short driving distance the only major problem would be traffic and I went in the third week of January so traffic was light however getting on the trails is very simple it was a beautiful walk came back into Sedona late in the afternoon the restaurants were there they were more than expenses we went out of town to eat someplace which was a good idea there are public restrooms in town most of the gift shops and novelty shops for very friendly
  • It’s a steep scramble but if you go at sunset the epic views are well worth it!
