  • The river flows through the entire Washington. There are two wonderful ways to get acquainted with it: first, take a canoe or boat in George Town and descend the River to at least one of the bridges. And the second is to take the car and drive to the Potomac River National Park, which is about an hour's drive from the city. Potomac River the fourth-highest in the United States and on the territory of the National Park are the most beautiful waterfalls of this powerful river. Entrance to the Park is free and parking too. In the territory equipped picnic area and restrooms. A lot of hiking trails along the shore. And still very much mosquitoes, so don't forget the mosquito repellent.

  • I love crossing the bridges into Washington and seeing the Potomac River. Every season offers a new view, every time of day the river speaks it's own song. Sit at a riverside cafe in the spring or sum...  more »
  • We chose a small boat by accident, but a good choice, the narration was good, and we were taken under a small bridge into a marina behind the Pentagon,  more »

  • Wet, fairly clean, has rocks, partially navigable. Solid river
  • I love this river. It's awesome that it's right here in MD too! Some key highlights: 1. There are places to swim up near Cumberland and Harper's Ferry. I've gone cliff diving at a campsite up there and it's great. The water is crisp and cool and clear enough to see 15 feet down. 2. It's a HUGE river, spanning across the length of MD. Of course, it's not the Amazon. But for someone who lives in Baltimore, it's pretty dang big. You're gonna find a quiet place that suits you, regardless of the busy or not busy seasons. 3. There is so much nature that surrounds the river. And with nature comes campsites. There are countless campsites to stay at along the entire river. 4. There's a trail called the C&O Towpath/Canal that runs from Cumberland to D.C. (I'm planning on biking the entire 185 miles of it this May!)
  • This is a great river that has many nice recreation spots all the way to the ocean. The only negative is one that is almost constant in this modern world, and that is that it is polluted.
  • Beautiful scenery, relaxing place.
  • People have a hard time holding onto their trash or disposing of it properly. There is no outside toilet available.
