It is a fairly long drive from the valley to the viewpoint but it is absolutely worth it (you could always hike up of course). The views are just stunning. Yes it is busy, but what do you expect - goo...  more »

A great Rocky massif that powerful and impressive works from almost every perspective. Best of the mountain opposite to photograph.

We are lazy, so we went to Glacier Point Road (allow an hour for Yosemite Valley, a little more from Tenaya Lodge). Glacier point offers an extraordinary view of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, right in front, various waterfalls (Yosemite, Vernal), and so many other things so beautiful to contemplate. It is probably better to get there early in the morning or late afternoon to enjoy the best light and also to meet with fewer people. Attention if you go there at night: the road is very winding and can be dangerous at night. Many animals, including deer and deer, can cross the road. Like many tourist sites in the American parks, Glacier Point is very (too) equipped with toilet, of course, but also gift shop, bar, etc... That said, the site is large enough so that we can peacefully walk around admiring the scenery. We can borrow several hiking trails, including one down the Valley.

Beautiful views of the area. Really consider being there at sunrise. The sun will rise over (or just to the side of) Half Dome. The lighting creates a beautiful effect throughout the park as it winds its way across the valley. If you do try to make sunrise, plan ahead. It may be a significant drive, depending upon where you're staying overnight, but it is well worth the effort. From what we saw, not enough people do it. It wasn't crowded, but it really should have had more people. Also: this is a significant elevation change from many areas of the park. Plan for whatever weather is happening at the top. It was much hotter when we visited the first time, cooler the second.

It takes a lot longer to drive up here than you think it will... if you're in shape and looking for a more active day I recommend biking it before they open the road to cars, or hike it! Either way the view us well worth it.

I remember back in the late nineties when I climbed with my bicycle the glacier point road. Not so steep, but a rather long climb. The road winds up through the Yosemite meadows. Here they are untouched! Your award: a most scenic view over the Yosemite valley. Waterfalls, Half Dome and more. Those days, as I remember was no restroom at all... No snacks, simply just pure nature. I enjoyed it. Hopefully others will follow...

Spectacular view, totally worth the 1 hour drive from Yosemite Valley visitor center. The parking is relatively small, but was the people generally go there to take pictures and come back, there is a good rotativity.

A long drive up but one of the absolutely best views! Breathtaking (and a bit scary) - you just have to go up here. Parking might be a hassle if you go during the day, so afternoon might be better.
