Create an itinerary including Playa Mar Chiquita
Go off the beaten path with a visit to Playa Mar Chiquita, a distinct beach in Puerto Rico because there is no main thoroughfare that runs alongside the beach, it doesn’t have a long strand, and the water is not ideal for swimming. However, sightseers come to get close to the shore to see the two huge coral formations that protect a small cove and the massive tidal pools that capture water rushing from the Atlantic Ocean, creating mist. These tidal pools feature a set of mini waterfalls flowing into them. • Breathtaking! We stayed within walking distance to this gem. Walked over to it every day. It was never over crowded, one of the cleanest beaches, and usually an older gentleman playing the bongos lol. It's serene and calm to swim in, but is a bit rocky (mostly smooth). Honestly our favorite spot. Just a heads up . . . There were a few stray dogs. They do not beg or bother you. There was a woman we seen bringing them food, seemingly regularly. Friendly creatures but kept to themselves, away from humans and the ocean.
  • Remote drive but then you get to a beautiful sheltered beach. Crystal clear, calm waters, watch slippery rocks getting into the water. Hike on the right rocks to see both sides and note the colony of urchins. Wonder if you can eat harvest them? Some vendors in parking lot and porto-potty avail.
