Visit Parque de Bombas, a museum of firefighting and a landmark of the city. Built in 1882, the building served as the first fire station in Puerto Rico, whose firefighters battled some major blazes in the early years. After 108 years of service, it was turned into a museum; today, you can view many relics, items, and artifacts from the station's history. Admire the Moorish Revival style and vibrant red color of the distinctive building, designed for the 1882 Exhibition Trade Fair. • This is a wonderful little place to visit in Puerto Rico and a MUST see if you're in Ponce. It's located right in the central Plaza surrounded by great little restaurants and shops. The Parque de Bombas is a tribute to the original firefighters in Ponce. There are photographs of the units from the 1890's and early 1900's, memorabilia like uniforms, trumpets and bells that used to alert the townspeople that there was a fire and even a old firetruck that supposedly still runs. The museum is free, and the volunteers that care for the space are super friendly and have a wealth of information to share. They will even help guide you to fun things to do in the area around the plaza. We had a wonderful little experience there.
  • Amazing place. I always make it a point to stop here when I come to PR. The way it’s preserved is awesome and it’s well taken care of and maintained. If ya have a few hours stop and visit. Parking can be scarce but even this night I managed to find a spot on the block.
