Gustavo Lerner opened El Galpon in 1996 and began by selling hats from the once famous hat maker Suarez. When Suarez closed its operations Gustavo reached out to Ecuadorian artisans and began to pull together the people, processes and designs that would create one of the premier authentic Panama Hat brands in the world. Today El Galpon features high to premium quality Panama Hats in a wide range of custom styles and colors for both men and women. If not THE Panama Hat expert in Old San Juan, then Gustavo is certainly one of a very small group.
