The City of Lights and Flowers

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Anchorage is known for parks, trails, and nature. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: see the interesting displays at Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, steep yourself in history at Alaska Native Heritage Center, explore the landscape on two wheels at Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, and stroll through Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

Newark to Anchorage is an approximately 9-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Alaska Standard Time (AKST) is minus 4 hours. While traveling from Newark, expect much colder days and a bit cooler nights in Anchorage, ranging from highs of 57°F to lows of 44°F. On the 7th (Tue), you're off to Fairbanks.

The Golden Heart City

With its strip malls and fast-food restaurants, Fairbanks appears a bit functional on first glance.
Change things up with a short trip to Chena Hot Springs Resort in Chena Hot Springs (about 1h 20 min away). The adventure continues: take in the exciting artwork at University of Alaska Museum of the North, deepen your understanding at University of Alaska Fairbanks, tour the pleasant surroundings at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, and stop by Santa Claus House.

Fly from Anchorage to Fairbanks in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Anchorage in September, expect slightly colder with lows of 36°F in Fairbanks. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can fly to Valdez.

Valdez, is a city in Valdez-Cordova Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. Kick off your visit on the 10th (Fri): take in the dramatic natural features at Worthington Glacier, then take an in-depth tour of The Valdez Museum and Historical Archive, and then see the interesting displays at Maxine & Jesse Whitney Museum.

Getting from Fairbanks to Valdez by flight takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of bus and shuttle. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Fairbanks in September since evenings lows in Valdez dip to 44°F. Denali National Park and Preserve

The 2.43 million hectares (6 million acres) of Denali National Park include low taiga forest, high-alpine tundra, and snowcapped mountains, all of which lead up to Mt.
Kick off your visit on the 11th (Sat): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Denali. On your second day here, identify plant and animal life at Mc Kinley Park Rd.

Getting from Valdez to Denali National Park and Preserve by combination of flight, bus, and train takes about 8.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of ferry and train; or do a combination of ferry, bus, and shuttle. In September, daily temperatures in Denali National Park and Preserve can reach 55°F, while at night they dip to 40°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
