Amarillo — 8 nights

Yellow Rose of Texas

Explore Amarillo's surroundings by going to Devil's Rope and Route 66 Museum (in McLean), Canyon (Old West Stables, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, &more) and Lubbock (Buddy Holly Statue and West Texas Walk of Fame & National Ranching Heritage Center). There's still lots to do: wander the wide-open spaces of Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West, get engrossed in the history at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, admire all the interesting features of Route 66, and learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Amarillo Zoo.

To find traveler tips, ratings, photos, and other tourist information, refer to the Amarillo trip itinerary planner.

Fargo to Amarillo is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Expect somewhat warmer temperatures when traveling from Fargo in June; daily highs in Amarillo reach 90°F and lows reach 63°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Sat) to allow enough time to fly back home.
