Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. Oak Alley Plantation and Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site are good opportunities to explore the local culture. USS Kidd and Whitney Plantation will appeal to museum buffs. Change things up with these side-trips from Baton Rouge: Global Wildlife Center (in Folsom), Houmas House Plantation and Gardens (in Darrow) and Ponchatoula Country Market (in Ponchatoula).
