Situated where the Rio Grande River takes a big southerly dip in West Texas, Big Bend National Park covers a massive expanse of desert, woodlands, and grasslands full of rivers, limestone canyons, and high mountains. Nearly 2,000 species of plant and animal life call this place home.
Get some historical perspective at Terlingua and Hot Springs Historic District. Take a break from the city and head to Santa Elena Canyon and Lost Mine Trail. Get out of town with these interesting Big Bend National Park side-trips: Museum of the Big Bend (in Alpine), Big Bend River Tours (in Terlingua) and Marfa Lights Viewing Center (in Marfa). There's much more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Chisos Mountains, trek along Tuff Canyon Trail, cruise along Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive, and admire the majestic nature at Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Fort Davis is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jeff Davis County, Texas, United States. Start off your visit on the 14th (Mon): look for gifts at Davis Mt. Broom Shop, immerse yourself in nature at Davis Mountains State Park, and then look and learn at McDonald Observatory. On the 15th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the majestic nature at Balmorhea State Park, then contemplate the long history of Fort Davis National Historic Site, and then stop by Marfa Book Company.

Getting from Big Bend National Park to Fort Davis by car takes about 3.5 hours. In March, Fort Davis is slightly colder than Big Bend National Park - with highs of 71°F and lows of 35°F. On the 16th (Wed), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive back home.
