Durango — 1 night

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Tue): let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour and then get outside with Outdoor Activities. Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Historic Downtown Durango and then kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks.

Dallas to Durango is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus, car, shuttle, and taxi. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time (CST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -1 hour difference. Traveling from Dallas in May, expect nights in Durango to be much colder, around 35°F, while days are slightly colder, around 68°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Wed) so you can catch the flight to Denver.

Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Start off your visit on the 19th (Thu): admire the natural beauty at Denver Botanic Gardens, steep yourself in history at Molly Brown House Museum, and then don't miss a visit to 16th Street Mall. On the next day, glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, get to know the resident critters at Denver Zoo, and then get a new perspective on nature at Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

Fly from Durango to Denver in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Durango in May since evenings lows in Denver dip to 43°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Fri) early enough to drive to Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs — 3 nights

Stunning Garden of the Gods Park scenery, blue skies and the glory of Pikes Peak-America’s Mountain have attracted visitors to Colorado Springs for more than a century.
Step out of Colorado Springs to go to Cañon City and see River Rafting & Tubing, which is approximately 1h 20 min away. There's still lots to do: walk around Garden of the Gods, get to know the resident critters at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, see the sights as you ascend with a climbing tour, and get in on the family fun at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park.

Getting from Denver to Colorado Springs by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus; or do a combination of train and flight. May in Colorado Springs sees daily highs of 68°F and lows of 42°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) early enough to catch the flight to Dallas.

One of the country's most popular shopping destinations, Dallas and its sprawling suburbs include more shopping centers per capita than any other urban center in America.
Take a break from Dallas with a short trip to Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District in Fort Worth, about 40 minutes away.
