Mystic — 2 nights

A historical leading seaport, Mystic has maintained a strong respect for the past.
Visit Olde Mistick Village and Stonington Lighthouse Museum for their historical value. Take a break from the city and head to Mystic Seaport Museum and East Beach. Venture out of the city with trips to East Matunuck State Beach (in South Kingstown) and Narragansett Beach (in Narragansett). There's lots more to do: admire nature's wide array of creatures at Mystic Aquarium, explore the different monuments and memorials at Elm Grove Cemetery, make a trip to Mystic & Shoreline Visitor Information Center, and try to win big at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Newark to Mystic is an approximately 2.5-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or do a combination of train and bus. When traveling from Newark in September, plan for a bit cooler days in Mystic, with highs around 75°F, while nights are about the same with lows around 58°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) so you can go by car to Hartford.
