Durango

— 9 nights
Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Explore Durango's surroundings by going to Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House, Cliff Palace, &more), Four Corners Monument (in Teec Nos Pos) and Notah Dineh Trading Company and Museum (in Cortez). There's much more to do: relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, take a peaceful walk through San Juan National Forest, take in the dramatic scenery at Treasure Falls, and explore the striking landscape at Yankee Boy Basin.

For other places to visit, ratings, maps, and other tourist information, you can read our Durango trip planner.

In July in Durango, expect temperatures between 86°F during the day and 54°F at night.
