Get outdoors at Waimea Canyon State Park and Kalalau Trail. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lihue: Hanalei (Wai`oli Hui`ia Church, Hanalei Beach, &more), Kekaha (Scuba & Snorkeling & Kokee Natural History Museum) and Na Pali Coast State Park (in Wainiha). Big Pineapple
In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.Take a break from the city and head to Diamond Head State Monument and Waikiki Beach. USS Arizona Memorial and USS Utah Memorial are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Honolulu: Waianae (Ka'ena Point State Park, Swim with Dolphins, &more) and Lanikai Beach (in Kailua). There's much more to do: explore the activities along Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, tour the pleasant surroundings at Puu Ualakaa State Park, take in the dramatic natural features at Halona Blowhole, and look for all kinds of wild species at Pele's Chair.

The Garden Isle
The northernmost of Hawaii's major islands, Kauai earned the nickname "Garden Island" because of its abundance of lush greenery and tropical plants, watered frequently with plentiful rainfall. Kauai's landscape continues to suffer from powerful erosion, resulting in natural attractions that include plunging canyons, tall mountain peaks, and the longest sandy coastline of all the Hawaiian islands. Offering a mild tropical climate and pristine wilderness areas largely unspoiled by mass tourism, Kauai is a great vacation destination for visitors eager to escape Hawaii's more crowded tourist resorts. For a genuine Kauai experience, join the locals for one of their famous traditional meat and vegetable feasts, prepared in underground pits lined with hot rocks.
