Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. Start off your visit on the 26th (Thu): examine the collection at Louisiana's Old State Capitol, then take an in-depth tour of Plaquemine Lock, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Mike the Tiger Habitat. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: get a sense of history and politics at State Capitol Welcome Center, then examine the collection at USS Kidd, then contemplate the long history of Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site, and finally don't miss a visit to The Myrtles Plantation.

Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Kids will enjoy The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Escape My Room New Orleans and Old New Orleans Rum Distillery. Step out of New Orleans to go to Wallace and see Whitney Plantation, which is approximately 52 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Garden District, examine the collection at Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, brush up on your military savvy at The National WWII Museum, and admire the landmark architecture of St. Louis Cathedral.

Traveling by bus from Baton Rouge to New Orleans takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. When traveling from Baton Rouge in December, plan for a bit cooler days and somewhat warmer nights in New Orleans: temperatures range from 57°F by day to 57°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) so you can go by car to Folsom.
