The glaciers from which Glacier National Park takes its name mostly dissipated eons ago, but they left behind a scoured landscape of high and steep mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, lush alpine meadows, and thick forests.
On the 7th (Sat), hike the day away at Highline Trail. There's much more to do: take a memorable drive along Going-to-the-Sun Road, contemplate the waterfront views at Avalanche Lake, hike along Grinnell Glacier, and appreciate the views at Logan Pass.

You can drive from Glacier National Park to Gardiner in 7.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of flight and car; or do a combination of car and bus. In August, Gardiner is a bit cooler than Glacier National Park - with highs of 28°C and lows of 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Wed) so you can drive to Big Sky.

Big Sky is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gallatin and Madison counties in southwestern Montana. On the 12th (Thu), take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports and then take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback.
