A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Pittock Mansion. Visiting Timberline Lodge and Ski Area and Multnomah Falls will get you outdoors. Step out of Portland to go to Troutdale and see Multnomah Falls, which is approximately 50 minutes away. It doesn't end there: take in nature's colorful creations at Portland Japanese Garden.

The city of Hood River is the seat of Hood River County, Oregon, United States. Kick off your visit on the 13th (Mon): contemplate the waterfront views at Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, take in the dramatic scenery at Starvation Creek State Park, and then take a peaceful walk through Starvation Creek Ridge Loop. Here are some ideas for day two: examine the collection at Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum, examine the collection at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum, then see the interesting displays at Fire Museum in City Hall, and finally identify plant and animal life at Tom McCall Nature Preserve.

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach. Step out of the city life by going to Fort Clatsop National Memorial and Columbia River Maritime Museum. Go for a jaunt from Astoria to Cannon Beach to see Ecola State Park about 50 minutes away. There's more to do: pause for some photo ops at Astoria Column and see the interesting displays at Flavel House Museum.

Traveling by car from Hood River to Astoria takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Hood River in July, expect nights in Astoria to be about the same, around 55°F, while days are a bit cooler, around 69°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Fri) early enough to drive to Florence.
