Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
On the 9th (Mon), examine the collection at Seaside Inverted Experience, then kick back and relax at Cannon Beach, then explore the striking landscape at Haystack Rock, and finally pause for some photo ops at Astoria Column. On the next day, explore the striking landscape of Fort Clatsop National Memorial.

Traveling by car from Portland to Astoria takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. While traveling from Portland, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Astoria, ranging from highs of 69°F to lows of 52°F. The city of Hood River is the seat of Hood River County, Oregon, United States. On the 11th (Wed), see the interesting displays at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum, then get engrossed in the history at Fort Dalles Museum and Anderson Homestead, and then explore the activities along Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
