A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Cape Meares Lighthouse. Get a sense of the local culture at Prehistoric and Hatfield Marine Science Center. Explore Newport's surroundings by going to Cape Perpetua Visitor Center - Siuslaw National Forest (in Yachats) and Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area (in Pacific City). There's much more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area, enjoy the sand and surf at Nye Beach, and admire nature's wide array of creatures at Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Florence is a coastal city in Lane County, in the U.S. Visit Umpqua River Lighthouse, Museum,and Gift shop and Oregon Coast for their historical value. Get a sense of the local culture at Backstreet Gallery and Given Back Bird Houses Working Museum. Go for a jaunt from Florence to Reedsport to see Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: hike along Hobbit Trail and enjoy the sea views from Heceta Head Lighthouse.

Traveling by car from Newport to Florence takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In November in Florence, expect temperatures between 58°F during the day and 44°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Crater Lake National Park.
