Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Step out of San Juan with an excursion to Museo del Tabaco Caguas in Caguas--about 30 minutes away. The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Old San Juan, scramble along the landscape with a canyoning and rapelling tour, get to know the fascinating history of Sitio Histórico de San Juan, and enjoy the sand and surf at Condado Beach.

On the 3rd (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: head off the coast to Isla Palominos, add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and then see the interesting displays at El Portal Tropical Forest Center.

You can drive from San Juan to El Yunque National Forest in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle. Expect a daytime high around 89°F in July, and nighttime lows around 78°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) to allow enough time to fly to Culebra.

Culebra

Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
On the 4th (Sun), enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Punta Soldado Beach and then kick back and relax at Flamenco Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse, then step off the mainland to explore Culebrita, and then kick back and relax at Zoni Beach.

Fly from El Yunque National Forest to Culebra in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry. In July in Culebra, expect temperatures between 90°F during the day and 80°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Mon) so you can travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Isla de Vieques is known for beaches, nature, and wildlife. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: enjoy the sand and surf at Balneario Sun Bay, stroll through Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, take a leisurely stroll along Malecon, and take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports.
