For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Shop till you drop at Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery and Gallery Galleon. Escape the urban bustle at Secret Beach and La Chiva. Kick off your visit on the 26th (Tue): enjoy the sea views from El Faro Lighthouse, take in the exciting artwork at Playa Oeste Gallery, then see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Crashboat Beach.
